Pope Langdale Sworn in as Member of the Judicial Qualifications Commission

On Friday, July 14, 2017, Langdale Vallotton, LLP partner William P. (“Pope”) Langdale III was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice David Nahmias as a member of the Judicial Qualification Commission (“JQC”).  The JQC has oversight responsibility of all Judges in the State of Georgia, insuring that our Judges maintain the integrity of the Judicial Branch. It was recently reformed by the Georgia Legislature to mandate that its members are appointed by both the Legislative and Judicial Branch of State Government. It will now consist of an Investigative Panel and a Hearing Panel.

Pope was appointed by the current Lieutenant Governor, Casey Cagle, to serve on the Investigative Panel.  The Investigative Panel consists of two judge members appointed by the Supreme Court, one attorney member appointed by the Governor, one attorney member appointed by the President of the Senate/ Lieutenant Governor, one attorney member appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, one citizen member appointed by the President of the Senate/Lieutenant Governor, and one citizen member appointed by the Speaker of the House. Pope will serve on this panel alongside Edward D. Tolley, Richard Hyde, James Balli, Warren Selby, Jr., Judge Louisa Abbot, and Judge Stacey Hydrick.

The Hearing Panel consists of three members, one judge member appointed by the Supreme Court, one attorney member appointed by the Supreme Court, and one citizen member appointed by the Governor. The Hearing Panel’s members are Judge Robert McBurney, Jamala McFadden, and Michael Register.

Upon being sworn in, Pope made the following statement: “I am honored to serve on the JQC.  I know that all citizens want an independent judiciary, free from any improper influence, which consists of judges who ethically carry out the obligations of the office. Our Judges are the backbone of civility, maintain order in our communities, and protect the freedoms that all of us enjoy. Therefore, it is imperative that the Judges of our State uphold the highest ethical and moral standards. The JQC is in place to insure that trust exists between our citizens and the Court, and our mission is to insure that our State is always a beacon of light for justice and impartiality. The JQC will carry out this mission in a fair and unbiased manner.”

JEKYLL ISLAND – A South Georgia judge and attorney will have a say in policies for the state’s lawyers.

Robert A. Plumb Jr. of Langdale Vallotton LLP in Valdosta was recently elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the 49,000-member State Bar of Georgia, according to an organizational press release.

Christina L. Folsom was recently sworn in on May 11, 2017, as a member of the board of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers (GAWL). The keynote speaker at the event was Leah Ward Sears, former Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court and the first female Supreme Court Justice in Georgia. The organization was founded in 1928 to proudly serve the diverse interests of women lawyers in the state of Georgia. They have been pioneering for professional women for more than 85 years by enhancing the welfare and development of women attorneys and supporting their interests. GAWL is a statewide bar organization with national affiliation, and its members include judges, in-house counsel, attorneys at large, small and medium firms, solo practitioners, governmental attorneys, public service attorneys, law students, and attorneys who are not currently practicing actively.

On December 7, 2016, Langdale Vallotton, LLP attorney Jennifer C. Monroe delivered a presentation to the South Georgia Medical Group Management Association (SGMGMA) regarding healthcare laws affecting physician practices.  SGMGMA is an organization comprised of physician practice managers and others in the field of healthcare administration whose purpose is to share knowledge and facilitate education and networking within the medical management community.

MoKellsieTwo Graduating Seniors Awarded the Langdale Legal College Scholarship

On June 28, 2016, Pope Langdale of Langdale Vallotton, LLP awarded the Langdale Legal College Scholarship to two graduating seniors, Motunvolaolu “Mo” Asebiomo from Valdosta High School and Kellsie A. Davis from Lowndes County High School.

The Langdale Legal College Scholarship is awarded each year to graduating seniors who have excelled academically and who have shown a genuine interest in pursuing a legal education after high school. To be eligible, a student must have demonstrated plans to attend an accredited four year college. The scholarship is intended to further the education of deserving students with the hope that one day they will return to our community to serve our citizenry in a field related to the law. Each student will receive $1,000 to be applied toward his or her costs of attending college.

Mo Asebiomo

In September, Mo Asebiomo will attend Stanford University. Her major is undeclared. She states, “I intend to explore the academic offerings in my freshmen year and choose what is in my best interest for a future in law. Stanford doesn’t require students to declare until their sophomore year.”

Kellsie A. Davis

In August, Kellsie A. Davis will attend University of Georgia and plans to major in Political Science. Langdale Vallotton, LLP congratulates Mo and Kellsie and wishes them the very best of luck.
